After daring, the second word that comes to my mind when I talk about leadership is caring. I had a, one of my friends works for a big multinational corporation and this company had thrown a party like most companies do, and this guy’s a teetotal love it. Just kind of an extinct species these days. I’m cool fellow, you know, he didn’t know what to do, so he was moving around with a glass of Virgin Mohito in his hand and then after a while with all the drinking and talking and socializing and garden networking as I call it, the guy went and sat on the seat just at the back and right in front of him. What do young employees of the company probably in their late twenties and they were completely drunk and one guy was telling the other guy he completely drunk speed. He said you know what, Bro?

You know the modern jargon, right? It’s talking a young employee talking to the other guy. He said, you know what, Bro? If my boss asks me to jump off from a cliff, I’ll do it and he’s totally, completely inebriated. The other fellow asked him, I mean, dude, are you serious? If your boss asks you to jump off a cliff, you jump off. He said, man, I’m damn serious. I will. The other guy who’s drunk as well as, I mean, what gives you the conflict? It’s the answer that this other guy gave. My friend heard him, he was telling me this. He says, because my boss values me, appreciates me, opens up opportunities for my growth, gives will be, has been invested in me, is such a massive support in my life that I know that if he asks me to jump off the cliff, he will most certainly, most certainly have a massive net ready to make sure that I don’t fall down on the ground. Ladies and gentlemen, a leader of a change is an individual who creates a net of security because people don’t want leaders who are just achievers and performers. People want leaders who can instill that spate trust and a feeling of security in the guys on the lead. When you have such leaders, the subordinates are willing to give their blood, their sweat, their tears, their very commitment to bring the change that leaders want to bring in the world, which is why Sir Richard Branson, one set of a very nice thing. He said, train your people so well that they can leave you, but treat your people so well that they don’t want to leave you.
